Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport
Reconditioning of the Baggage Sorting System in the CDG1 terminal
This project was a real challenge and was a success for Paris CDG Airport and for Vanderlande Industries, as the airport did not close at any point during the work.
The new CDG1 Baggage Sorting System provides a great deal of flexibility as all of the destinations can be accessed from any of the check-in desks. From check-in to final destination within the facility, the bags are automatically identified, security-checked and monitored. The bags are mainly transported using belt conveyors. Vanderlande Industries has also installed four tilt-tray sorters and integrated 13 screening machines.
In order to keep the terminal operational, this project needed to be accurately organised in phases between the various operators involved. The unique circular architecture of the building made it possible to carry out four successive phases of work, whilst keeping at least three quarters of the building operational.
Phase 1 of the work was the most important, as this corresponded to one of the four sorting sectors, as well as forming the interconnection to the 3 other sectors which were to be installed. Two TRIPLANAR carousels fitted with pushers ensure this interconnection.
